Target Card Data Breach – What You Should Know

Bellwether is actively taking measures to help protect members that may be affected by the recent unauthorized access of debit and credit card data at Target. We want to assure you that the security of our members’ information is always a top priority. We use sophisticated fraud monitoring systems to detect fraud on our cards. If we’ve detected any fraudulent activity on your account, a BCCU member service representative will contact you, so there is no need for you to call BCCU at this time.

While we are closely monitoring all of our cards, and are working with our vendors to determine which cards may have been impacted by this recent event, you are an important line of defense in identifying unauthorized transactions. If you used your Bellwether debit or credit card at a Target store between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, 2013, please monitor your Online and Mobile Banking accounts, as well as your account statements. Notify us immediately at 1-866-820-5835 (credit cards) or 1-866-996-9828 (debit cards) if you notice any unauthorized charges.

Bellwether has a $0 Liability Policy that helps protect you against any unauthorized charges to your debit and credit accounts, and you will be fully reimbursed in accordance with the policy in the event that unauthorized charges are posted to your account.

How can I find out whether my card was affected?
BCCU is actively investigating this recent breach and will contact you if we notice any suspicious activity on your card, or if we learn that your card is at risk as a result of this breach.

Should I reset my PIN?
There is no indication that any card PIN information was compromised. While you are welcome to reset your PIN at any time, it is not necessary as a result of this incident.

Should I cancel my card?
We will notify you and/or reissue your card if we feel your account is at risk. BCCU credit cards have a $0 Fraud Liability Policy that helps protect you if there are any unauthorized transactions on your account. If fraudulent charges were made using your debit or credit card, they will be refunded as long as a claim is made for these charges within 60 days of the statement date.

Will Bellwether reissue my card?
With the help of fraud detection technology we will continue to monitor account activity, and if we determine your account is at risk, we will notify you and reissue your card(s).

Was Bellwether at fault?
No. This event was related to unauthorized access to payment card data held by Target and impacted Target shoppers who made card purchases from Nov. 27 to Dec. 15, 2013.
