Bellwether Community Credit Union - First in New Hampshire to Launch Free Online Financial Education Program for Young Adults
MANCHESTER, NH —Providing essential and engaging financial education on topics such as credit scores, loans and budgeting, Bellwether Community Credit Union launches It’s a Money Thing, an online learning center with supplementary resources intended for young adults aged 18 to 30.
“Our It’s a Money Thing program uses animation in a way that helps make financial education easy and fun, but most of all memorable,” commented Mike L’Ecuyer, President and CEO of Bellwether.
“Most of these topics are generally not taught in schools, and we thought this program could really help our community.”
The learning center offers a variety of courses that are aligned with the Council For Economic Education’s National Standards for Financial Literacy. The courses cover the standard areas of knowledge and understanding that are fundamental to personal finance, including
• Earning Income
• Buying Goods and Services
• Using Credit
• Financial Investing
• Protecting and Insuring
Bellwether’s goal for this program to help local young adults with “adulting.” Adulting is a popular, tongue in cheek way to refer to doing adult tasks. With this program, New Hampshire’s young adults can take steps towards learning the financial concepts necessary for their adult lives. At www.bccu.org/adulting they can easily start with short, animated, and easy to understand videos and then choose if they want to enroll in the associated course.
“Regardless of your age, you’ll love these short videos and accompanying material. One of our younger members said our program was ‘adulting, made easy.’ I was pretty amused by the term, but that was all I needed to hear,” commented L’Ecuyer.
Bellwether is known for its involvement in many community initiatives and charities, such as Make-A-Wish, New Horizons of NH, the NH Food Bank, and others. It’s dedicated to making its communities stronger, and making the complexities of finance easier to understand. BCCU has been serving its members in New Hampshire for over 90 years.
