Fraudsters Pretending to be Major Businesses

E-commerce fraud is continually on the rise with imposters trying to gain access to your debit and credit card information. The scammers send emails and texts pretending to be a major retailer or payment services, such as Amazon, Netflix or PayPal. They will try to solicit sensitive personal information to gain access to your account. They are "phishing" for your credentials. Once they have that access, they are only a few clicks away from the debit or credit card information.

What to do or not to do

  • Do not click on any links
  • Report the incident to the business
  • Block the number, delete the email or text
  • Do not give any personal information like username or password
  • Do not send any payments or payment information

How to spot a fraudulent communication

  • Sender's address is a random mix of letters and numbers. Amazon texts come as six random numbers.
  • Inaccurate information.
  • Grammatical errors or misspellings
  • Strange hyperlink
  • Sense of urgency to take immediate action
