I am Strong, or at Least my Socks Tell Me So
Running has been going well for me so far. Let me confess though, what I truly love and enjoy about the beginning-again stage is the SHOPPING! Shopping for new gear brings me such joy. I’ve already shared with you in a previous post how to shop for the right running shoes. Well, now I’m going to share with you some tips I’ve found helpful while on the hunt for new apparel. In the past I’ve gone dormant during the cold New Hampshire winter months. Needless to say, I didn’t have too many workout clothes heading into this fall. I made getting a proper jacket to withstand the wind, rain & snow my top priority. As I wandered around the running apparel store aimlessly, my runner friend who accompanied me that day suggested I ask the store associate to help me find what I was in search of. "They’re here to help you.
And, no one knows better than them what the store carries and where it is located," my friend said to me. With the help of the associate, I was able to find a lightweight, loosely-fitting jacket with enough room to be able to layer underneath in colder temperatures. This way I can get more use out of my purchase by being able to wear it year round. I also snagged some gloves, winter running tights, and a new reflective vest. The reflective vest is a critical part of a runner's attire during the fall/winter months. As the daylight hours decrease, it is of utmost importance to stay visible while running at the early morning hours or into the late evening.
The associate also let me know about the limited edition Balega socks, “Words of Grit & Grace.” With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Balega is showing their support for the cause. $1 from the sale of every pair of these particular socks benefits The Breast Cancer Fund. I was SOLD! First off, I’ve already been running in nothing but Balega socks, so of course I wanted more! Their socks keep me blister free. Even better, they come in fun bright colors with awesome inspirational phrases to keep me motivated. Plus, to top it all off, part of the proceeds go to The Breast Cancer Fund! That's a win-win all around in my book! I am so glad the sales associate brought the limited edition socks to my attention because otherwise I wouldn't have noticed them. I ended up buying two pairs and now wish I had gotten the third. Then I’d have the complete set. I still can and probably will go back to buy more. See my bright pink -“I Am Strong”- socks pictured here. I just love them!
